Advancing community health and wellbeing through collective learning, discovery, and action

OUR STORY

At The Reiner Foundation, we are driven by a simple belief: to help who we can, when we can, and where we can with what we have.

This belief inspired us to create The Reiner Foundation.

We were both deeply influenced by the example of our parents, whose lives were dedicated to serving others. As a nurse, pastor, volunteer director, and physician, they demonstrated compassion that left a lasting impact on us. Their care for others shaped not only our values but also the work we are doing today.

As a family, we have been fortunate to travel the world together, often through mission trips and opportunities to serve. These experiences introduced us to diverse cultures—and to the stark realities faced by those who lack access to basic necessities like clean water, nutritious food, healthcare, education, and a living wage.

These encounters profoundly impacted us as a family. They opened our eyes to the inequalities that exist and sparked a question that wouldn’t leave us: What if every community had access to the same opportunities we often take for granted? We spent countless hours asking ourselves what we could do to make a difference, imagining how we could help if we understood the needs, had the right expertise, and created the time. We couldn’t shake the sense that a “still small voice” was urging us to act.

Over time, that voice grew louder, and the pieces began to fall into place. Scott made the life-changing decision to leave his 36-year career in nonprofit healthcare to dedicate himself fully to the foundation. Our two adult children, Rees and Ali, share this calling and bring unique expertise—Rees with his advanced degree in global health and Ali with hers in communications.

We don’t see this journey as mere chance. We believe it’s the result of listening to that still small voice and following where it leads. While we know there is still much to learn, our mission to advance community health and wellbeing has begun. Together, as a family and through The Reiner Foundation, we are committed to turning compassion into action and creating opportunities for healthier, thriving communities.

OUR FOCUS AREAS

At The Reiner Foundation, we focus our efforts on three core areas where we believe we can create the greatest impact for wellbeing:

Community Health

We are committed to improving health outcomes by addressing gaps in access to essential resources and infrastructure. Our work focuses on providing medical equipment and supplies that enable healthcare providers to deliver quality care. Additionally, we deliver health education to empower individuals and communities with the knowledge they need to make informed health decisions. We also support the development of health infrastructure, ensuring that facilities can meet the needs of the populations they serve. By taking a holistic approach, we aim to strengthen healthcare systems and create healthier, more resilient communities.

Poverty Reduction

Breaking the cycle of poverty requires addressing its root causes and creating long-term solutions. We invest in initiatives that promote sustainable livelihoods and economic resilience, such as supporting entrepreneurship, job creation, and community-driven development programs. By empowering individuals and families to achieve financial stability and independence, we aim to build stronger, self-sustaining communities. Our approach ensures that resources and opportunities reach those who need them most, paving the way for a brighter future for all.

Learning & Opportunity

We believe that learning is key to unlocking potential and driving change. Our initiatives focus on providing skill training to build practical, marketable abilities, offering literacy programs to strengthen foundational knowledge, and creating empowerment programs that foster confidence and leadership. By equipping individuals with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed, we enable them to contribute meaningfully to their communities. Our goal is to cultivate a culture of growth, self-reliance, and opportunity that creates lasting impact.

Each focus area is deeply interconnected, supporting our mission to advance community health and wellbeing and drive sustainable, meaningful change where it is needed most.

OUR PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS

We are inspired by the organizations we partner with and support, whose innovative, community-driven approaches provide valuable lessons and amplify our shared mission to create lasting impact.

Women’s Economic Empowerment
Kuwala Zambia is dedicated to providing women with the skills, opportunities, and resources needed to break the cycle of poverty. By focusing on sustainable livelihoods and economic empowerment, Kuwala equips women to improve their own lives and those of their families. Their community-driven approach fosters resilience and self-reliance, creating lasting change that extends beyond individuals to entire communities. Kuwala’s commitment to empowering women and addressing the root causes of poverty inspires us, and we are proud to support their impactful work.

Resourcing for Maternal and Child Health
Anchor Health Partners is transforming healthcare access in Zambia by addressing critical gaps in maternal and child health. The organization provides essential medical equipment, supplies, and training to underfunded health facilities in underserved communities. Their programs also include community health initiatives and partnerships that strengthen the continuum of care for mothers and children. Anchor Health Partners demonstrates the importance of a targeted, resource-driven approach to improving health outcomes. Their impactful work provides valuable insights into addressing complex health challenges with sustainable, needs-based solutions.
